Moving in the summer has its advantages. Yes, it’s hot, but moving when it’s hot out is actually safer than moving during the winter, when the streets are either ice- or snow-covered. (As long as you stay sufficiently hydrated!) You won’t have to worry about slippery driveways or roads, or inclement weather that could slow you down.
Plus, moving during the summer is preferable because the kiddos are out of school! This is the perfect time for families to relocate. That way, you have plenty of time to get everything in order before the new school year starts.
Here are some tips for moving during the summer:
- Enlist kids’ help. If your kids are old enough, have them help out. Let them unpack their own belongings and give them age-appropriate responsibilities.
- Check to ensure that utilities have been set up in your new home. The last thing you want during a summer move is to discover that the AC doesn’t work at your new home! Coordinate with the previous owners to check that the appliances are functioning, and if you want them to leave the utilities on, make sure to communicate this to them. The last thing you want to worry about in the middle of your move is where the nearest appliance store is.
- Stay hydrated. Heat stroke is real – make sure that you have plenty of water, snacks, and other refreshments if you’ll be moving items back and forth.
